On a fateful Sunday morning, a middle-aged woman lost her life in a brutal attack by her husband, who later ended his own life in a tragic love triangle.
The incident occurred in Makunga village, Trans Nzoia County, after the couple, Stephen Kagumo and Caren Chebet, had a heated argument.
At around 3am, neighbours were alerted by loud screams coming from the couple's house and rushed to the scene, only to find the door locked from inside.
Good Samaritans had to break in to find the woman lying in a pool of blood on the bed, while her husband had hanged himself using a rope in another room.
Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Ayub Ali confirmed the incident and urged couples to seek help in resolving their domestic disputes instead of resorting to extreme actions.
"It is unfortunate that a husband can kill his wife in such a heinous manner and then take his own life. I urge couples to always seek help to prevent such incidents," he said.
The bodies were taken to the Kitale County Referral Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
Neighbours alleged that the disagreement was sparked by an alleged love affair.
According to the wife's sister, who lived with the couple and their 18-year-old child, she was woken up by a commotion coming from the couple's bedroom and fled after her brother-in-law threatened to kill her.
