Published on August 17, 2019, Jonathan Van Ness, a star of the hit TV show 'Queer Eye,' is making waves in the entertainment industry with his advocacy for increased LGBTQ+ representation.
Van Ness, who has been changing lives through grooming on 'Queer Eye,' is also the host of the Earwolf podcast 'Getting Curious' and has been nominated for an Emmy for his work on the Funny or Die webseries 'Gay of Thrones.'
In a recent interview with The Wrap, Van Ness spoke about the importance of a greater variety of LGBTQ+ representation in television and pop culture.
'It's really reassuring to see the popularity of 'Queer Eye' and 'Pose' in mainstream culture,' Van Ness said. 'However, when we look at the amount of popular, award-winning television that is cisgendered and heterosexual and heteronormative, it's clear that there is still a long way to go.'
Van Ness, who appeared in Taylor Swift's 'You Need to Calm Down' music video alongside other LGBTQ+ celebrities, is optimistic about the direction the entertainment industry is headed but remains mindful of the need for more representation.
'We have a huge number of LGBTQ people whose stories do not get told,' Van Ness said. 'With all due respect, there should be so many more queer shows.'
