On August 17, 2019, a tragic incident unfolded at Polyview Estate in Kisumu, leaving one person dead and sparking a police investigation.

According to reports, Daniel Jaoko, a manager at Ray-Green Hotel in Nyamasaria, had parked his car, blocking Peter Otieno, a Coast Bus employee, who was trying to leave the estate.

County commander Benson Maweu confirmed the 5am shootout, stating that Jaoko drew a pistol and shot Otieno three times in the chest.

Despite Otieno's serious lung injuries, he was rushed to Avenue Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Police recovered 15 bullets from Jaoko's car and a staggering 42 bullets from his home in Nyamasaria, leading to the suspect's arrest and detention at Kondele Police Station.

Maweu condemned Jaoko's actions, stating that it was wrong to shoot and kill an unarmed driver.
