On a somber note, Kenya's Chief Justice David Maraga opened a law court in Nyamira on Friday, August 16, 2019, highlighting the country's growing defilement problem.
According to Maraga, the majority of perpetrators are youth who are serving long sentences, a stark reminder of the devastating impact of this heinous crime.
Maraga appealed to the elderly and church leaders to guide and counsel the youth, emphasizing the need for collective action to address this issue.
He also directed the judiciary to decentralize its administration of justice services, bringing it closer to the people.
Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama announced that the county government will set aside offices for the judiciary upon completion of the county headquarters, which will be dedicated to magistrates handling land succession and mediation cases.
Nyagarama lamented the long duration courts take to determine such cases, causing stress to many families.
Nyamira Senator Okong'o Omogeni urged public servants to ensure that government resources benefit residents and appealed for support in the fight against corruption.
