Employees of the Kericho County government are on the brink of a strike, with 2,400 workers in various sectors threatening to down tools from Sunday midnight if their delayed July salaries are not paid.
The County Government Workers Union (CGWU) Kericho branch Secretary Richard Ruto explained that the workers had initially planned to withdraw their services on Monday, but postponed their action to accommodate guests of the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) being hosted in the county.
According to Ruto, the workers' notice of withdrawal of labour expired on Monday, but they chose to serve the guests instead of going on strike.
Kenya National Union of Nurses branch secretary Geoffrey Tarus echoed Ruto's sentiments, advising members of the public to seek health services elsewhere if the strike goes ahead.
