On a sunny Friday, Eric Muriuki, son of Kirinyaga Senator Charles Kibiru, exchanged marital vows with his bride, Myra Watiri, in a vibrant traditional wedding known as ngurario in Kikuyu.
The ceremony took place at Mutige Boys High School grounds in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County, in the presence of family and friends, including four senators.
According to the traditional Kikuyu wedding customs, the groom, his parents, and other accompanying individuals were not allowed to enter the bride's home on the wedding day.
However, after following some other traditions, the groom ritually cut the goat and shared it with the bride and her family, symbolizing the creation of a bond between the couple.
Photos circulating online showed Muriuki carving the meat and holding one end, while his wife held the other, signifying their union.
This occasion was reminiscent of another high-profile wedding that took place on July 13, when Kirinyaga Governor Ann Mumbi married Nairobi-based lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo in a lavish traditional ceremony attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.
