On August 17, 2019, opposition leader Raila Odinga spoke out against the Punguza Mizigo initiative draft bill in Turkana County.
Odinga criticized the leader of the Punguza Mizigo initiative, Ekuru Aukot, for failing to involve Kenyans in the creation of the draft bill.
He suggested that Aukot collaborate with the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), which is preparing a report that could lead to a referendum to amend the constitution.
The BBI report, Odinga claimed, had captured the feelings and interests of Kenyans.
Meanwhile, women leaders under the Embrace banner have denounced the Punguza Mizigo initiative draft bill as retrogressive.
They accused Aukot of being opposed to the gains made by women, who have long championed inclusion.
