Athletic Bilbao kicked off their 2019-2020 La Liga campaign with a thrilling 1-0 win over Barcelona at the San Mamés Stadium on Friday, August 16.
Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde handed summer signings Frenkie de Jong and Antoine Griezmann their debuts during the encounter.
However, it was Athletic Bilbao who took the lead in the 89th minute, courtesy of a late goal from Aritz Aduriz.
Barcelona's Luis Suarez had a chance to break the deadlock in the first half but narrowly missed the target, and he was later replaced in the second half after suffering a knock.
Despite improved performance in the second half, Barcelona could not find the back of the net, and the match ended 1-0 in favor of Athletic Bilbao.
