On August 16, 2019, the State House issued a statement correcting an earlier announcement that President Uhuru Kenyatta had designated August 26 as a public holiday to allow maximum enumeration of Kenyans during the national population census.

The initial statement, published on the President's website, stated that August 26 would be a public holiday to facilitate the census. However, the correction stated that the President did not make such an announcement.

According to the correction, the President did not authorize August 26 as a public holiday, despite the importance of the census to the country.

Earlier, a tweet was published on the State House Kenya account stating that 'Government Designates August 26 As A Public Holiday To Facilitate National Census.' However, the tweet has since been deleted.
