On August 17, 2019, the Kenya government issued a correction to an earlier announcement that had declared Monday, August 26, a public holiday.
The initial announcement, made through the official State House Twitter handle, stated that the holiday was intended to facilitate the smooth process of the National Census scheduled for August 24 and 25, 2019.
However, in a statement released by the Presidential Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU), the government clarified that President Uhuru Kenyatta had not announced August 26 as a public holiday.
According to the PSCU, the government regrets the error and apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the erroneous communication.
As a result, all plans made for the previously announced public holiday on August 26 are cancelled.
