On August 16, 2019, Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) clinched the men's football title in the Kenya Communications Sports Organisation (Kecoso) games, beating Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK) 7-6 in penalties at Gusii Stadium.
The match had ended in a 2-2 tie in regulation time, forcing the teams to proceed to post-match penalties as per tournament rules.
For KFS, Erick Mose, Reagan Mamela, Brian Buleti, Peter Mugusu, Kevin Shimwenyi, Willys Shawali, and Kevin Mumia successfully converted their penalties, while Dennis Amboso from CAK missed.
CAK had scored through Eric Lusala, Brian Juma, Michael Otieno, Micahel Muya, Anthony Gicho, and Eric Otieno, but KFS goalkeeper Kevin Mumia saved Felix Phillip's and Abdulwahab Musa's efforts.
This was the second consecutive year that CAK lost in the final under coach Abdalla Juma.
CAK's coach Abdalla Juma attributed the loss to fatigue, stating, 'This is football and anything can happen. We played well but by bad luck we lost on penalties. Our objective was to reach the final and we achieved that goal.'
On the other hand, KFS coach Mwinyi Mapesa expressed joy over the win, saying, 'After we were eliminated at the quarter-final stage last year, we went back to the drawing board and worked on our weaknesses to come back stronger. Plans are underway to register this team in next year's Football Kenya Federation (FKF) lower-tier leagues.'
Meanwhile, in the men's volleyball category, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) emerged champions by beating Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) 3-1 (25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21) at Kisii High School.
Speaking after the events, Kecoso secretary general Omole Asiko praised the huge turnout, especially after allowing Shabana FC and other locals to participate in the games.
He said, 'Shabana's inclusion in this year's games has spiced up the competition.'
