On February 11, 2018, a woman, a local musician, was raped by two men at Seefa apartments in Highrise, Nairobi. The incident occurred on her birthday, after a party in Kilimani where the perpetrators were present.

The woman claimed that she only knew one of the two men and after a night of merry-making, she went home with them. However, they took advantage of her inebriated state and raped her repeatedly, refusing to take no for an answer.

On Thursday, August 8, 2019, Magistrate Martha Mutuku delivered the verdict at a Nairobi court, finding the two men, Alex Olaba and Frank Wanyama, guilty of gang rape charges.

Magistrate Mutuku handed down a 15-year prison sentence to each of the perpetrators, stating that the victim was 'traumatised' by the event and a 'deterrent sentence is necessary.'

In their statements to the police, the players maintained that sexual contact was consensual.

On August 16, 2019, the court delivered the verdict, and the two men were sentenced to 15 years in prison each.
