On Wednesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta toured Nakuru Town to open the multimillion County Assembly office complex, where he was presented with a list of development issues by the county's leaders.

The list was read out by Nakuru County Assembly Leader of Minority Peter Wanjala Palanga, who expressed optimism that addressing development in Nakuru would reduce poverty levels.

Among the key demands were the revival of the ailing pyrethrum sector, which would create jobs in the county, and the revival of the underutilized Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya (PPCK) plant in Nakuru.

Senator Susan Kihika requested the President to allow one of the 11 natural resources in the county to be managed by the devolved unit, which would result in additional revenue and help the county meet its development goals.

Other requests included the enhanced Kenya Road Board allocation to Nakuru County, increased Nakuru County Assembly Commission on Revenue Allocation, and the lifting of land caveat imposed in 1999 in Tinet, Mariashoni, and Amalo wards.

The leaders also wanted the President to address the issue of title deeds in the region, where a group of women have been waiting in vain for the crucial documents promised by the founding father of the nation, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

President Kenyatta promised to follow up on the issues raised by the leaders.
