On August 16, 2019, Vahid Halilhodzic, a renowned Bosnian coach, took over as the new head coach of Morocco's national football team. The 69-year-old coach, who previously led French side FC Nantes, has been given a three-year contract to lead the Moroccan team.

According to the Moroccan Football Federation, Halilhodzic's primary objectives include guiding the team to the 2022 FIFA World Cup and securing a semi-final spot in the tournament.
