Published on August 16, 2019, as we approach the weekend, it's time to reflect on the week's stress and look forward to a fun-filled Friday night.

Whether you're meeting a cute guy from the coffee shop or a friend's friend, first dates can be nerve-wracking. But, being aware of the red flags can save you from potential heartache.

Here are five red flags to watch out for on a first date:

  • He's late and doesn't inform you

Arriving late without a word is a huge red flag. Any self-respecting person will at least call to explain their tardiness. If he does show up, and his excuse doesn't hold water, it's time to leave.

  • He's rude to the wait staff

Treating wait staff poorly is a sign of disrespect. If he's rude to them, he'll likely be rude to you too. It's time to find an exit.

  • He's controlling

Controlling behavior is a major red flag. Ordering for you on a first date or making comments about your weight is not acceptable. It's time to cut the date short.

  • He's absent

Being physically present but mentally absent is a clear sign that he's not interested in you. If he's glued to his phone, it's time to leave.

  • He brings up his ex

Constantly talking about his ex is a sign that he's not over them or is bitter about the past. It's time to be like his ex and leave.

Remember, first dates can be nerve-wracking, but being aware of these red flags can save you from potential heartache.
