On August 16, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko responded to a Kenyan man who spent Sh130,000 to advertise himself for the Deputy Governor post.

Philip Chogoti Chepsat, a university graduate with over 15 years of experience in public service, had pleaded with Governor Sonko to appoint him to the position left vacant following the resignation of former Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe in January 2018.

However, Governor Sonko rejected Chepsat's bid, stating that he intends to appoint a woman to fill the position.

"It is worthy of note that as a politician, I believe in keeping my promises to the electorate. And earlier, I committed myself to Nairobians that my nominee for Nairobi City County's Next Deputy Governor shall be a woman," Governor Sonko said.

He also encouraged Chepsat to apply for soon-to-be-advertised positions, as he plans to fire a number of his Cabinet members.
