Published on August 16, 2019, the KCB Kilifi Rally is set to rev off today, with Onkar Singh Rai, a premier class driver, leading the pack. He will be navigating a new VW Polo R5, the latest super car to join the Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) series.
Onkar has already tested the Polo locally and will be among the star attractions in Kilifi. However, he faces stiff competition from other top drivers, including Baldev Chager, who is seeded second in the Mombasa Motor Club (MMC) organized round.
Chager will be driving a Mitsubishi Evolution 10-R4, targeting a hat trick in the rally. Tejveer Rai, seeded third, will also be driving an R4 Mitsubishi Evolution 10, alongside his co-driver Gavin by Laurence.
Manvir Baryan, the newly crowned FIA African rally champion, will be flagged off in fourth slot, alongside his British co-driver Drew Sturrock. Manvir will be driving a Skoda Fabia R5 model, which has dominated Africa in the past three seasons.
Chager expressed his confidence ahead of the rally, stating, "I'm approaching Kilifi with a lot of respect despite all the confidence from my back to back wins. The strategy is like every other KNRC; really nothing different at all. We will do our best and possibly can. But it's a fact that the R5s will be better and there's no comparison with Evos."
