Published on August 16, 2019, Kenya's girls' athletics team is gearing up for the East Africa Secondary Schools Games in Arusha, Tanzania, with a mission to reclaim the lost crown.

Kenya has traditionally been a powerhouse in athletics, but last year's showpiece in Musanze, Rwanda, saw Uganda take the girls' prize, leaving Kenya with a burning desire for revenge.

Leading the Kenyan girls' onslaught is national cross-country champion Feliciana Kanda from Kapsait School in the Rift Valley Region. Kanda, who timed 20:30:9 to win the national title, will be eager to complete a double.

'Our opponents have trained well and all races will not be easy,' Kanda said.

The Kenyan girls will face stiff competition from Uganda, but they are determined to make a comeback and reclaim their lost crown on August 21 and 22.
