A leaked report has reignited scrutiny of Moi Girls’ Secondary School in Nairobi, alleging the presence of an organized lesbian network actively recruiting students. The claims emerge amid unresolved questions surrounding a 2018 rape incident at the institution, which previously drew national attention.

Investigations and Contradictions

Kenya Union of Post Primary Educators Teachers (KUPPET) previously concluded there was no male presence during the 2018 incident, suggesting the victim may have been assaulted by fellow students. A letter allegedly sent to a student threatened repercussions if she refused to join the network, according to her father.

The school’s board chairman, Eng. Paul Mwema, dismissed the allegations as fabricated, linking them to a parent involved in a separate court case against the institution. He claimed the matter was already public knowledge, stating: "It’s a nightmare the government is struggling to address."

The girl’s father revealed his daughter was targeted after refusing to comply with the network’s demands. He described how classmates staged a commotion during class, accusing her of being possessed by evil spirits. This led to her expulsion, followed by a High Court case before Judge Pauline Nyamweya.

Mwema disputed the authenticity of the threatening letter, noting it was not presented during initial court proceedings. The father explained the delay in producing the document, citing his daughter’s initial denial of the network’s existence. The student was later allowed to return to school.

Broader Implications

The controversy highlights ongoing challenges in addressing sexual misconduct and peer pressure within Kenyan schools. Mwema’s comments reflect broader concerns about systemic issues, though specific details about the network’s structure remain unverified.
