Willy Paul himself has stated that he is not limited to one genre, saying, 'Who says I quit gospel for secular? What God has put in me is beyond talent.' He also believes that the same God who blesses secular artistes like Wizkid and Davido is the same who blesses gospel artistes.
However, his music style has been a subject of criticism from some quarters, with some accusing him of not being a true gospel artiste. But Willy Paul remains unapologetic, saying that he is a creative artiste who can produce music that is beyond the traditional gospel genre.
