Cancer Claims Prominent Lives in Kenya

Kenya has lost several prominent individuals to cancer in recent years, highlighting the devastating impact of the disease on the country.

One of the latest cases is that of Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso, who died on July 29, 2019, after a long battle with ovarian cancer.

Laboso's death is a stark reminder of the prevalence of cancer in Kenya, where the disease has claimed the lives of several prominent individuals, including politicians, business leaders, and celebrities.

Among those who have succumbed to cancer in Kenya are:

  • Former Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore, who died on July 1, 2019, after a long battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
  • Opposition politician Ken Okoth, who died on July 26, 2019, after a long battle with colorectal cancer.
  • Former NTV presenter Janet Kanini, who died in April 2017 after a long battle with lung cancer.
  • Former Nyeri governor Nderitu Gachagua, who died in February 2017 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

  • Keanyan Havard University Professor Calestous Juma, who died in 2017 out of cancer.
