Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga faced a rough welcome at Kasarani stadium on July 30, 2019, as Gor Mahia fans and ODM supporters turned on him, accusing him of messing up Ugenya's by-election campaigns and tarnishing ODM's image.
The governor's utterances during the campaigns had threatened Ugenya residents of denying them development if they voted for David Ochieng, who defeated ODM candidate Chris Karan.
ODM supporters were particularly angry at the party's dismal performance in the two by-elections, with the party losing in Ugenya, a perceived stronghold, to a little-known party, Movement for Democratic Growth (MDG).
It took the intervention of ODM leader Raila Odinga to save the governor from an angry mob, which was baying for his blood. Raila's bodyguards bundled the governor into a waiting car and whisked him away.
