ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi has spoken out against the push for a constitutional referendum, stating that the country is not ready for such a change.

Speaking in Nakuru on Sunday, Mudavadi expressed concerns that any attempts to alter the constitution would primarily benefit a select few, rather than the over 40 million Kenyans.

"It is clear that Kenyans are fed up, and a referendum may be necessary, but it should be in the interests of the ordinary Kenyans who are feeling the pain," Mudavadi said.

Mudavadi also criticized the Punguza Mizigo Bill, proposed by Eku Aukot, which aims to reduce the number of elected MPs by more than half. He described it as a "fait accompli" that would hinder service delivery to Kenyans.

However, Mudavadi acknowledged that Kenyans will ultimately have the final say on any attempts to change the constitution, emphasizing the importance of public participation in the process.
