July 30, 2019, marked a sleepless night for embattled Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu as he faced six charges in a Sh588 million illegal road tender case.
Waititu and his wife Susan Wangari spent Sunday night at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detention following their surrender earlier in the afternoon.
On Monday, they appeared before magistrate Lawrence Mugambi at the Milimani Law Courts, where Waititu's lack of sufficient sleep was evident.
‘Baba Yao was captured on camera taking a power nap during the hearing for his bail application,' a witness reported.
Waititu, his wife Susan, and 8 other co-accused denied graft charges, with magistrate Mugambi sending them back to detention for another night.
Ruling on their bail application is expected today morning.
As the court proceedings unfolded, Waititu's fatigue became apparent, with some observers suggesting that he had not slept since Friday.
