On July 29, 2019, Tanzanian journalist Erick Kabendera was detained at his home in a Dar es Salaam suburb by individuals claiming to be police officers.
According to a relative, at least six men in a Toyota Alphard sedan forcefully took Kabendera and his wife's mobile phones, without displaying any identity cards.
His wife, Loy, confirmed the incident, stating that Kabendera was arrested in broad daylight, in front of curious neighbors who were not allowed to take photos.
When contacted for comment, Dar es Salaam's top police commander, Lazaro Mambosasa, claimed he had not been notified of the detention, but promised to make a follow-up.
