On July 29, 2019, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i announced the arrest of 26 individuals, including a chief, in connection with the brutal murder of a suspected chicken thief in Kakamega County.

The incident, which involved a man hacking the victim to death with a panga, sparked widespread outrage and led to a swift response from authorities.

According to Dr. Matiang'i, the owner of the weapon used in the crime, as well as individuals who stood by and watched without intervening, have also been taken into police custody.

Seven suspects have already appeared before the Kakamega High Court, and four others were detained for 15 days pending further investigation.

Dr. Matiang'i expressed concern over the regular occurrence of violent crime with impunity in the area and vowed to continue operations to flush out criminals until they face the full force of the law.
