On July 29, 2019, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his wife Susan Wangari Ndung'u were arrested in Nairobi and charged with pilferage of county funds.

According to reports, the duo denied the counts and will be waiting for the court to rule on their bail application on July 30, 2019.

Waititu's arraignment is likely to put his job on the line following a High Court decision that ruled governors implicated in graft should not be allowed access to their offices.

The ruling by Justice Mumbi Ngugi prescribed that the governors would only resume their positions if the courts declared them not guilty.

Waititu and Ndung'u are accused of being involved in a KSh 588 million scandal where they are accused of irregular award of tenders.
