On July 28, 2019, Kenya's national basketball team, The Morans, returned home to a heroic welcome after finishing second at the inaugural FIBA AfroCan Championship in Bamako, Mali.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko hosted the team at City Hall, where he rewarded them with KSh 1 million for their stunning performance in the continental tournament.

"I hosted the Kenya national basketball team at City Hall after their arrival from Bamako, Mali, where they finished second in the FIBA Afrocan basketball tournament," Sonko confirmed in a Facebook post.

"I also rewarded the team Sh1 million for their stunning performance in the continental tournament," he added.

The team's impressive campaign included beating basketball powerhouses such as World-Cup bound Tunisia and the Ivory Coast on their way to the final.

Despite suffering a heartbreak in the finals, the team won hearts with their buoyant performances at the inaugural edition.
