Published on July 29, 2019, a devastating attack in Nigeria's Borno state has left at least 65 people dead.

The Boko Haram and ISWA insurgency, which has lasted a decade, has resulted in thousands of fatalities and the displacement of millions from their homes in the region.

According to eyewitness Bakura Mallam Amadu, the insurgents gathered before firing on a funeral procession, while a security source described the attack as carried out by Islamists on motorbikes and in vans.

The Nigerian military has declined to comment on the incident.

Despite President Buhari's re-election in February, promising to improve security in Nigeria, the conflict continues, with Boko Haram and ISWA still attacking both civilian and military targets.
