On July 29, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in New City, Rockland County, New York, where a 32-year-old father, a captain in the New York Army National Guard, left his 1-year-old twins in a hot car.

The twins, who had just celebrated their first birthday with a party at home, were found unresponsive and not breathing when police arrived at the scene.

According to the police, the father, who was assigned to the medical command, had left his job and got into the car, driving a short distance before realizing the twins were inside.

He jumped out and screamed, and a passer-by called the police. The father's bail was set at $100,000, and he posted a $50,000 cash bond.

The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of leaving children in cars, especially during heat waves. According to kidsandcars.org, an average of 38 children die of heatstroke each year after being left in locked cars.
