On Sunday, July 28, 2019, Oburu Oginga, the elder brother of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, addressed the press at his home in Milimani, Kisumu county, to defend himself against allegations of irregularly acquiring land belonging to Kenya Railways.
According to the East Africa Legislative Assembly MP, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) targeted him because he is Raila's brother after the anti-graft agency repossessed the property in question.

Oburu Oginga stated that the court found no fraud on his part and that he did not acquire the parcel irregularly and fraudulently. He described the allegations as 'political hogwash' and claimed that the EACC was singling him out because he is the brother of Raila.
Oburu Oginga said, 'The court found there was no fraud on my part. I did not acquire the parcel irregularly and fraudulently. This is political hogwash! They are singling me out because I am the brother of Raila. It is not my mistake to be Raila’s brother. I did not apply to be one.'
As reported earlier by TUKO.co.ke, the EACC's position was that the land was irregularly allocated to Oginga and that was why they confiscated it, together with another parcel from Kendeep Construction Company.
According to the EACC chief Twalib Mbarak, both properties estimated to be worth KSh 60 million belonged to Kenya Railways Corporation and recovering them was a major milestone in the fight against corruption.
