On November 27, 2018, Kenya's basketball team, the Morans, played a friendly match against Cameroon at the Nyayo National Stadium's Gymnasium.
Fast forward to the FIBA AfroCan basketball tournament in Bamako, Mali, where the Morans made a remarkable run, finishing second behind the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Despite a strong effort from Tyler Okari, who scored a match-high 21 points, the Morans fell short against the DRC, who took the first quarter 29-18 but were eventually crowned champions.
Okari's impressive performance earned him the top scorers award, while teammate Tom 'Bush' Wamukota grabbed the best blocker accolade.
Kenya coach Cliff Owuor praised his team's performance, saying, 'The final result didn't go our way, but the boys played well and showed courage. Finishing second in continental competition is a good achievement and as a country, we can build on that to improve our standards.'
The Morans had a remarkable outing, defeating top-ranked nations and reaching the final, with their 81-69 thrashing of Nigeria at the group stage being a highlight.
With every match, the Morans improved, and their determination paid off as they reached the quarter-finals, semis, and eventually the final.
