On December 30, 2018, a tragic incident occurred in Mahanga Village, Vihiga County, where 22-year-old Claire Agneta lost her life at the hands of her husband, Wilfred Muyoma Ombajo.

According to court documents, Muyoma, who had been on the run for seven months, was arrested last week in Maseno, Kisumu County, where he had been hiding.

On the day of the incident, Muyoma returned home at 8pm and began confronting his wife for aborting their five-month-old fetus. His mother, Esther Mmbone, attempted to intervene, but Muyoma chased her away with a machete.

He then locked the door and assaulted Claire before saying in Swahili, "nimemmalizia" (I have finished her).

Following the incident, Muyoma fled to Naivasha and later relocated to Kisumu, where his phone was tracked, leading to his arrest.

Autopsy results from the Vihiga County Referral Hospital revealed that Claire's cause of death was multiple injuries consistent with assault.

After undergoing a psychiatric test, which confirmed he is mentally fit to stand trial, Muyoma was ordered to be charged with the capital offense of murder.

He is set to be arraigned at the High Court on July 30, 2019.
