On July 28, 2019, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu's surrender to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) sparked a mix of reactions on Twitter.
After a two-day search in Nairobi and Nakuru, detectives finally tracked down the governor, who had been on the run with his wife Susan Ndung'u over alleged graft allegations worth Ksh.588M.
As news of his surrender spread, Kenyans took to Twitter to share their thoughts, with some expressing excitement and others humor.
"#Waititu Punjab's finest arrested," tweeted @ArigiArnold.
"So people have been calling Waititu a fool yet even the whole government agencies can't find him, indeed India taught him escape tactics, but remember his office will be declared a scene of crime, and he may miss bail because he will go untraced again," added @FrankMtetezi.
"Lol! Ati Ferdinand Waititu, wife, daughter and five others were on the run. The cops ran after them. They caught up with #Waititu and the others are still at large. If you know you know. #Waititu #BreakingDespair," commented @ElviSymo.
"See #Waititu did his maths well, who gives in on Friday knowing very well they'd be behind bars the whole weekend," said @noelreeds.
"If they had shouted wamlambez mapema, wakahare would have responded wamnyonyez kitambo sana #Waititu," @4c857aebe50f4f9 tweeted.
"Kiambu Governor Ferdinand #Waititu has finally surrendered himself at EACC Headquarters. Enyewe kila msee hawezitaka kushikwa friday, everyone knows the drill," commented @ItsShark15.
"#Waititu finally shows and gets arrested. The Kiambu Governor says he was not hiding but went on a weekend Kesha to pray for kiambu. Punjab drama," tweeted @kevanmullah.
