On a day of thrilling rugby action at the Kinoru Stadium in Meru, top teams KCB, Homeboyz, Nondies, Mwamba, and Top Fry Nakuru secured their spots in the Main Cup quarters of the George Mwangi Kabeberi Sevens.
Defending champions KCB, who won the Kakamega Sevens last week, will face Homeboyz in a highly anticipated quarterfinal match after winning two of their matches on the day. They defeated Meru RFC 32-0 in their opening match and then posted a 28-7 victory against Impala Saracens.
However, KCB suffered a narrow 12-10 defeat at the hands of Menengai Oilers, a loss their captain Davis Chenje attributed to 'simple mistakes.'
Chenje expressed optimism about their chances in the quarterfinals, stating, 'In the quarters things will be different, it's a knockout and if you lose you are out, and we are going to meet high quality teams so will take our chances.'
Mwamba made a statement with the biggest scoreline of the day, crushing Egerton Wasps RFC 53-0, following a 17-12 win over Kenya Harlequins and a 29-0 victory over Nondies.
Homeboyz also made a strong showing, winning three out of three matches against Catholic Monks, Mean Machine, and Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).
The quarterfinal matchups are set: Menengai Oilers will face MMUST, Top Fry Nakuru will take on Nondies, Mwamba will face Northern Suburbs, and Homeboyz will face KCB.
