July 27, 2019, marked a somber day for the family of Ikolomani Member of Parliament Bernard Shinali as they received the devastating news of the demise of his 35-year-old son, Chris Atema.
Chris, a father of two, had been living and working in the United States of America for several years, serving as a soldier in the US Navy.
According to Robert Ayitsi, the MP's brother, Chris had gone for a retreat in Arizona but tragically died in a swimming pool at a hotel.
MP Benjamin Washiali, who condoled with the family, expressed shock and called for an inquest into the death, questioning how someone trained in the US Marine could drown in a swimming pool.
Other Kakamega leaders who visited the Ikolomani MP at his home in Lirhembe village included Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe and Kakamega Woman Rep Elsie Muhanda.
