On July 27, 2019, Nairobi police made a significant arrest in a string of club-related thefts. Catherine Njanja Wangeci, a suspect linked to a group that has been spiking drinks at clubs in Nairobi, was apprehended at the Njakwa chemist in Luthuli Avenue.

According to police, Wangeci had been providing drugs to two women, who would then spike people's drinks in bars and restaurants. The second suspect, whose identity has not been revealed, was arrested in the Linkea area of Kahawa West.

One of the suspects has been linked to a case involving renowned Kenyan author Yvonne Adhiambo Oduor. Two men, Joshua Murimi Ndegwa and Nelson Njoroge Wambui, were also arrested for their alleged involvement in the scheme.

Police claim that the two men would target victims who had been drugged, robbing them or forcing them to give away their ATM pins, which would then be used to withdraw cash from their bank accounts.

It is alleged that the suspects are responsible for a spate of thefts in Nairobi and surrounding areas. Police recovered several items, including fake dollars, ammunition, a machete, and two expensive watches, which are believed to have been stolen from drugged victims.

Charity Gachambi Njuguna, a third suspect, remains at large.
