Ken Okoth, the former Kibra MP, had been battling colorectal cancer for months. He had spent time in Paris, France, seeking treatment, but his condition had worsened.
According to his personal doctor, Ahmed Kalebi, Okoth had made it clear to his family and close friends that he did not want to be placed on life support in the event of a worsening condition.
However, on Thursday night, Okoth's condition took a turn for the worse, and he was rushed to the Nairobi Hospital's Intensive Care Unit. His brother, Imran Okoth, revealed that the doctors were forced to put him on life support against his wishes.
Just a day before his passing, the Public Service Commission (PSC) met at City Hall to discuss Okoth's health condition and the mounting medical bills.
Okoth succumbed to cancer at 4 pm on Friday at the Nairobi Hospital, where he had been rushed after his condition worsened.
Dr. Ahmed Kalebi took to Twitter to express his pain and sadness at the loss of his patient, saying, 'Even though we both knew that the time had drawn nigh & cherished every new day as bonus time having accepted & prepared for the eventuality, I can’t help but feel severe pain of the tragic loss forcing tears in my eyes? Fare-thee-well #KenOkoth?? We remain connected forever.'
