On July 26, 2019, the Miss Uganda 2019 beauty pageant reached its climax at the Kampala Sheraton, but the event was marred by a dramatic confrontation between South African-based Ugandan socialite Zari Hassan and TV presenter Anita Fabiola.
According to eyewitnesses, the tension began when Anita Fabiola referred to Zari Hassan as 'Mama,' a term that did not sit well with the latter.
As the two women stood on stage, Zari Hassan handed over the microphone to Anita Fabiola, saying she was acting like they had a problem, but Anita refused, insisting that her role was only to host the event and apologizing for any wrongdoing.
Undeterred, Zari Hassan took the microphone and began speaking about the importance of women uplifting each other, but her words fell on deaf ears as the crowd started booing her.
In her defense, Zari Hassan claimed that she might have been joking, but people had taken the matter too seriously, which was not good. She proposed that both women announce the winner of the Miss Uganda 2019 beauty pageant together.
