Published on July 27, 2019, Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, the Jubilee Majority leader in the Senate, has weighed in on the ongoing criticism of President Uhuru Kenyatta's angry outburst.
Murkomen questioned why President Kenyatta directed his anger at Tanga Tanga MPs, saying it made him appear frustrated and angry.
"Why would the President who is almost 60 fight a man who is just 30? Some of the MPs in central are very hardworking, like Alice Wahome, Ndindi Nyoro, and Kimani Ichungwa. On the contrary, the President should be thanking them," said Murkomen.
The senator expressed concern about the President's anger, saying as a second-term president, he should be inspiring. He noted that the President's frustration permeates to the entire country.
Murkomen's sentiments are supported by nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura, who also called for an urgent Parliamentary Group meeting to iron out issues that have split the party.
However, Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju stated that he can only call for a PG meeting upon request by President Kenyatta.
The party last held a PG meeting in February 2018, just before the opening of Parliament.
Observers note that the differences in the ruling party are so entrenched that a mere PG meeting cannot address them in a few hours.
