Ken Okoth, the Kibra MP, died on Friday, July 26, 2019, after a long battle with cancer. He was 41 years old.

Okoth was serving his second term as MP for Kibra after securing the seat in 2017. He was a hardworking and dedicated legislator who earned a special place in the hearts of Kenyans.

Starehe old boys have joined Kenyans to mourn the sudden death of their colleague. In their condolence message, the old boys praised Okoth as one who possessed extraordinary leadership qualities that were inculcated at their school.

"Okoth in his life showed leadership in the Starehe way and we remain proud of his representation to the country and the world what Starehe stands for. We will miss his leadership, his brotherhood within our society and his leadership to his community and our country," said Old Starehian Society Chairman Raymond Rono.

Okoth was born in Kibra's Kisumu Ndogo slums in 1978. His mother, Angelina, brought him up as a single mum after their father abandoned the family. Despite the challenges they faced, Okoth managed to excel in his studies and secure scholarships to study in New York's St. Lawrence University.
