On July 25, 2019, economist David Ndii sparked controversy on social media with a tweet that insulted President Kenyatta.
Ndii, reacting to a tweet by the Daily Nation, quoted President Kenyatta as saying the government did not have extra money to allocate to counties.
Responding to the tweet, Ndii used his vernacular Kikuyu language to refer to President Kenyatta as a 'spoilt brat', asking if the President thought government funds belonged to his mother, Ngina Kenyatta.
“Kaī ndūrīka īno īciragia mbeca ciothe nī cia Ngīna (“Does this spoilt brat think that government's money belongs to Ngina?)
Online users have criticized Ndii, accusing him of disrespecting President Uhuru Kenyatta.
