On June 20, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko sparked outrage with his sexist remark, 'Mimi si bwana yako' (I'm not your husband), directed at Nairobi women representative Esther Passaris.
Passaris, known for her calm demeanor, chose to walk out on the governor rather than engage in a confrontation, a move that has been praised as a classy way to avoid conflict.
'He went very low when he said he's not my husband to pick my calls, he's met my husband and that was very low of him,' Passaris said in a statement.
Passaris has also criticized Sonko's approach to helping the needy, calling it demeaning and unsustainable. She claims that Sonko has yet to approve her projects aimed at helping the community.
Despite the tension, Passaris remains committed to working with Sonko on various county projects, but has yet to receive a public apology for his remarks.
