Published on July 27, 2019, a US court has been told of a shocking gun trade link between the Akasha family and the Al Shabaab terrorist group.

US Attorney Geoffrey Berman submitted in court details of how the Akashas allegedly trafficked weapons with members of the terrorist organisation.

According to Vijay Goswami's confession, he witnessed the Akasha brothers, Baktash and Ibrahim, discussing their dealings with Al Shabaab at their Mombasa home.

Goswami revealed that Baktash worked with an Italian negotiator to facilitate the trade, which involved passing weapons to cargo ship crews docking at the Port of Mombasa.

After a deal was reached, money would be wired to Al Shabaab, and they would supply weapons to the ship crews.

The Akasha brothers allegedly showed Goswami stashes of Al Shabaab weapons, including machine guns and grenades, at Baktash's home.

Goswami's testimony was corroborated by a recorded meeting between Baktash and a US secret source.
