Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has received a boost in his potential presidential bid after four Nyanza ministers and politicians pledged their support for him.

The ministers, including Prof George Magoha (Education), Mr Joe Mucheru (ICT), Mr Keriako Tobiko (Environment), and Mr Eugene Wamalwa (Devolution), said they would fully support Matiang'i in his endeavours.

The ministers made the pledge during a fundraiser at Riokindo Boys High School in Bomachoge Borabu constituency, where Matiang'i was the chief guest.

During the event, members of the Abagusii Council of Elders prayed for Matiang'i, likening him to the biblical David and asking him to keep fighting for the welfare of Kenyans.

The elders also held a press conference in Kisii town last week, saying Matiang'i is the region's main pointman in political and socio-economic matters.

The ministers dismissed reports of divisions in the Cabinet, with Mr Tobiko saying there is only one appointing authority in the country - President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Mr Tobiko added that all ministers have confidence in Kenyatta's leadership and that their loyalty and faith are fully with the President.

Prof Magoha, Mr Mucheru, and Mr Wamalwa echoed Tobiko's sentiments, saying that as Cabinet secretaries, they are paid by the amount of work they do, not by how much they talk.
