Kenyan lawmaker Ken Okoth, a member of parliament for Kibra, was rushed to a hospital in Nairobi after his health condition took a turn for the worse.
Okoth, who had been battling colon cancer for months, had returned to Kenya from France where he was undergoing treatment.
According to a statement from the State House, Okoth's bravery in the face of his illness had inspired many Kenyans, who had been praying for his recovery.
Okoth, 41, had been commended by the State House for his courage in fighting the disease, and Kenyans had been urged to pray for his recovery.
"I allow myself to be a Kenyan, Member of Parliament for Kibra, Honorable Ken Okoth, who has recently returned from France for treatment," said Kanze Dena, a State House spokesperson.
Okoth's health had been a subject of concern for many Kenyans, who had been inspired by his bravery in the face of his illness.
Okoth had been open about his health struggles, and had even spoken about his treatment in France.
