On August 3, 2018, a rare drama unfolded at the popular Cedars bar on Lenana Road in Kilimani area, Nairobi, when six MPs were involved in a serious gun drama with a Sudanese man.
The incident occurred when a Sudanese man, who claimed to be a PS in South Sudanese President Salva Kiir's government, began puffing cigarettes unperturbed even as smoke wafted towards the MPs.
Sam Atandi, the MP for Alego Usonga, was said to have been irked most and picked a quarrel with the Sudanese man, who became violent.
Other MPs who came to Atandi's defense included Teddy Mwambire (Ganze), Oscar Sudi (Kapsaret), Ayub Savula (Lugari), Didmus Barasa (Kimilili), and former Tiaty MP Asman Kamama.
The Sudanese man allegedly grabbed a glass of beer and splashed it on the MPs, prompting Sudi and Barasa to protest and threaten to attack him.
Before the two could express their outrage, the Sudanese man grabbed a bottle and threw it in Sudi's direction, but the MP ducked and the bottle hit the wall.
It was at that point that the bodyguards of the MPs and other patrons stepped in to calm the situation.
Barasa explained that a group of people associated with the Sudanese man walked in and caused a commotion as they tried to rescue him.
However, the bodyguards dealt with them appropriately and removed them from the bar, allowing the MPs to continue with their discussions.
While at the parking lot, the Sudanese man called other Sudanese who quickly came and were spoiling for a fight.
The police arrived soon after and were informed of the situation by the MPs, who explained that they were not involved in the altercation.
Unconfirmed reports suggested that three of the MPs brandished their guns when it looked like things were getting out of hand.
