On July 26, 2019, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji ordered the arrest of Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his wife Susan Wangari in connection with a KSh 588 million road tender scandal.

The alleged irregularities occurred during the 2017/2018 financial year when Waititu presided over the award of a procurement tender meant for upgrading various roads to bituminous surface.

According to the DPP, the tender was skewed in favour of M/S Testimony Enterprises Ltd, a company whose directors are believed to be the governor's close associates, despite county officials' knowledge.

Out of the total amount, at least KSh 147 million has been irregularly paid to M/S Testimony Enterprises Ltd, with the company also being awarded other contracts worth KSh 74 million.

In total, the DPP holds that Testimony Enterprises Ltd pocketed KSh 221 million out of which KSh 25 million was remitted to entities associated with Waititu.

Part of the funds was used by Saika Two Estate Developers to purchase Bienventure Delta Hotel owned by the county chief and his wife.

Once arrested and arraigned, the politician will face charges relating to conflict of interest contrary to Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes as well as dealing with suspect property.
