Kibra Member of Parliament Ken Okoth, 41, who had been battling stage four colorectal cancer, has passed away.

According to a source, Okoth's condition took a turn for the worse last night, and he was rushed to Nairobi Hospital's ICU.

Just two weeks ago, Okoth made his first official public appearance after being away in France for five months seeking treatment.

He had attended the Kibra Music Fest at Moi Girls School, Nairobi, and had expressed confidence that he would overcome the disease.

Okoth had told Kenyans in March that he was managing his condition and would survive, saying 'Napambana na hali yangu (I'm managing my condition) and we shall overcome.'

However, his condition took a turn for the worse, and he was placed on life support, which his family had decided to switch off an hour ago.

Okoth had been serving his second term as Kibra MP and had been a vocal advocate for his constituents.
