Gladys Wanga, the current Homa Bay Women Representative, has shared her inspiring story of overcoming challenges to pursue her education.

Wanga, who was a student leader at Kenyatta University between 2000 and 2004, had to rely on cutting grass on campus to earn money to pay her fees.

"I joined KU in 2000 as an orphan who doubted whether I would complete my studies. I thank the school for providing me with an opportunity to work while pursuing my education. Through the school's program, I was able to cut grass on campus and receive my allowance through the service. I also received a HELB loan," she said.

Despite facing numerous challenges, Wanga was able to graduate with a degree in Technology and also enrolled in a Health Science program.

At 38, Wanga is a trailblazer who was the first woman to be elected as the University Students' Association Secretary General.

She was also elected unopposed as the ODM party's Homa Bay County Women Representative in 2017 and went on to win the general election with a landslide victory of nearly 90%.

It is reported that Wanga is set to contest for the Homa Bay Governor seat in the upcoming elections.
